When my brother was into skiing, to get to the resort(s) in really bad weather not only was a 4.0l 4x4 version of his car not up to it with very chunky tyres, but the 5.2l V8 he got needed snow chains for the last part. Ha ha. Man maths in action on your brother's part no doubt to justify the beefier sounding car. 4 litre Grand Cherokee (or similar) is just as capable as the V8. Loses a bit of grunt with altitude but would still manage wearing the right shoes.

Well, given that they won't be on very long... You can’t kerb them all by April, can you?

Any old how, I was in Ireland all last week and while I was in the north, it snowed fairly properly for a while. It's really hard to judge or measure how much difference the winter tyres made, but what I can tell you is that on snow covered roads, there was nary a flicker from the TC light and it all felt very easy.
I'm still coming to terms with the background droning though, which was competing for irritation points with the wind rush from the roofbox I needed to take. Fuel consumption with the winter tyres and the roofbox was down to about 43mpg from a usual +/- 50mpg.

A roofbox as well as the cavernous space inside the E-class? That's a lot of shoes. I do hope the trip was a success.

Depends how you measure it I guess, it was successful, but retailers there are very nervous right now. Can't think why... 🤔
