I'll be the first to mention it.
I'm watching; perhaps hands in front of my eyes for the England games, but I suspect we might just escape into the knock out rounds and then presumably get defeated by a no-hope team who get lucky.
The winners? Obviously Russia. Vlad won't stand for anything else....

I've drawn Tunisia in the office sweepstake.
Yeah, great.

I've drawn Tunisia in the office sweepstake. Yeah, great. Tunisia are in the same group as England so they're in with a chance.

I was at our Somerset office today. Just got home to discover that some wag had stuck an England flag sticker with “England Rules” on it on the back of my car. 180 sodding miles I’ve just driven with that on the car.

Indeed. I don’t really do football, so help me out: which World Cup group is Scotland in?

Joking aside, I'm not big into watching sports of any kind. Don't get me wrong, it can be a great pleasure for a while to see someone who is really good at something being really good at it, but, from my own point of view, I'd much rather be actively trying to be good at something I like doing than using up any of my free time watching others from my sofa.
In other words, I'd rather spend a Saturday afternoon or a Sunday up a mountain on my bike, or make evening visits to a swimming pool than watch other people participating in their sport.
Which probably makes me weird but I'm not very bothered if it does.

Fair point, Humph. I’ll be spending the afternoon clinging to the idea that I'm still fit enough to call myself a cricketer. (Any wisecracks about that and I’ll respond with spinsters, evensong and baskets of kittens, OK?)
Three wins in our last three matches, but we’re depleted by Eid festivities today. Fingers crossed.

Fit enough? So, wait, you have to be "fit" enough to throw a ball, hit a ball or catch a ball, or at the very worst, jog a few yards with a bat in your hand? Punctuate all the above with tea and lunch breaks and call the whole thing off if there's a slight shower of rain?
Fitness wouldn't seem to be right up there in the major list of requirements would it? A resistance to slipping into catatonic trances might be more useful I suppose.

Ha ha !
Actually, there's a fairly full on mountain biking venue we sometimes go to where there's a particularly prevalent level of bike snobbery. One day I'm going to go there and take an old clunker from the shed, wear slacks, bicycle clips and a jumper and put a basket on the front and pretend to have taken a wrong turning on my way to church.

Edit above - going there now actually ( but with "proper" bikes ) if I can get the others into the car before bloody dark...

Watched Spain Portugal on Friday evening. Excellent game, far superior to the two games earlier in the day. Actually the sort of game you really want at the world cup.
Just watching Costa Rica v Serbia and it's a decent game but not in the same league.
Son #2 turned 18 today (in the middle of A levels). So off to the pub for the Germany Mexico match at 4pm and his first legal pint....
