That's awful, sorry that happened to you Al. During the day, was it?
I absolutely agree on barky dogs as burglary prevention.

Yes, whilst we were out at work/school. Came home with the children, they were the first ones to twig and ran out of the house, scared someone was still in there. Horrible. The wife works from home 2/3 times a week, but it was an office day for her. Not sure I'd want her in the house if someone's breaking in though. She often stays upstairs so they wouldn't have known she was there and probably would have tried to get in anyway. Still feel quite sickened and perturbed. Thanks for the kind words, both. Gonna visit these guys at the weekend: binfield.dogrescues.org/

Oh that’s horrible Al. I once disturbed two burglars in one of our old houses. Thought I heard something in the night and went downstairs to investigate. Clearly the sight of a naked angry Scotsman was too much for them to stomach as they made a run for it. Didn’t get a good look at them as they were in dark hoodies. All they got away with was a bottle of wine. Kids probably.

One of my houses was burgled a while back - it was the strangest thing.
Every bedroom has a tv, digibox and radio. All of them untouched.
The tv and stereo downstairs, untouched.
Half a bottle of whisky, a bag of old clothes, and the light fittings from two of the bathrooms stolen. (And they were cheap shit).
I never did work out a believable explanation.
The Police here had no interest.

Missed this thread update - sorry you've gone through this Al. Not nice.
I was burgled in student accommodation (rented house) twice in two weeks. The same lot came back a week later for stuff they didn't get the first time. We were in and I almost confronted one because they were coming up the stairs and we were upstairs watching TV (other TVs nicked).
The police had told the landlord to put the window back in and use something that set hard and not putty. He wouldn't and so they lifted the pane out the next time. Odd/suspicious that we got done when we got back after Christmas away. All our valuables in the attic room and locked away..... we get it all back out and get robbed. You then wonder if the landlord or his son was involved.
Step-son had a car broken into to steal. They couldn't because the battery was flat... Police got excited when blood spotted and it then matched someone on the books. Sent away for a bit I think.

Well I've copped for the £350 excess, quote to repair windows is £1200, there are two whole double glazed units they've damaged, the one they came in through and another one which they didn't manage to open. Claim is in for missing items. No word from Plod yet on the perps. They got some prints and DNA swabs so here's hoping.
