Silver wheels can also date a car. Of course black wheels emphasise driving god rim markings mere mortals don't have

Assuming your purchase price is >GBP35k that's going to stuff a lot of manufacturers with pre-reg's to shift. The grant is (or was) only on new cars. Pre-registered cars either will have received it already (claimed by the dealer if that’s allowed) or will not qualify for it. I’ve already let the dealer know this causes us a problem. Now we get to find out how keen he is to sell us one this quarter.

I imagine a lot of emergency sales staff meetings were called after that little gem was dropped.

Let’s hope something helpful comes out of the one in Maidenhead.

Have you tried playing them off against the bigger boys in Reading?

Well, I have some revised numbers. So far, of the £3,000 hit to the deal, I get to bear all but £348. I've said no, thank you. As I have a viable walk-away option, I can afford to test how keen they are to do a deal this month. There are two more quarter-ends to go through before the final payment is due, so there'll be a chance to try again.

Dealer called yesterday. It’s not going to happen this quarter but he’s hopeful (well, he would be) of something turning up in April. In the meantime, I have 36 hours of i3S playtime to look forward to this weekend.

Yes but you have to stay local still, right?

Ho ho. It can go three times around a circle 15km in radius. (And take in a bit of M40 in the process, as motorway stability - not our i3's strongest suit - is one of the things I want to try out.)

Just driven down from Manchester to London (on business) and was followed by two i3s. They kept up a reasonable speed as I was maintaining 'good progress'.

BMW are cutting the price of the i3 in response, could be what the dealer was hinting at: www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/i3/354617/bmw-i3-price-slashed-response-new-plug-car-grant

Not the first manufacturer to realign their prices since the subsidy was reduced. Call me cynical, but this infers that their prices were inflated before, to capitalise on the subsidies available?
Bit like scrappage - give everyone a thousand quid and prices rose commensurately, or rather the usual discounts disappeared.
