At 5'7" and about 12st 4lb, I am certainly a little heavy, but I do exercise and like today, go on reasonably frequent long rambles of eight miles or more. I lost about 2st two years ago through avoiding carbs during the week, regime I have kept to although not as strictly as I did. However, not eating sugary cereals in the morning is a major factor in keeping the weight off. The problem is two or possibly three large meals with whisky and wine at the weekend. If I tried really hard I would lose another stone, but life would be boring....

If you want to knock a few lbs off without too much effort, just ensure that you move a bit after eating and before bed. Even if it's just taking the dog out for half an hour late on. You'll sleep better too.
