I was recently informed people who drive Volvo cars in Germany are maths teachers. Hearing that didn't bring memories of calculus flooding back, reading WDB's oxbow lakes comments however, did. Think I must have a wiring short somewhere.

I once was flying over northern USA and spotted a huge oxbow lake. It was so large it even featured in the route map in the onboard magazine. But having ceased to study Geography at age 12 I couldn't tell you the name and even at that age the consequences of Roll-on Roll-off ferries evaded me. I am sure many years ago I did possess a Harris Tweed jacket but it didn't help me...

Maybe they've gone a bit geography teacher and wrapped a bit of leather or corduroy around the seam. I bought a Harris Tweed jacket on a whim in Oxford the other week. It was just hanging there, and it fitted — which happens seldom enough to get my attention. No leather patches yet, but it has those leather buttons like tiny 1960s footballs. I can even undo all four on each cuff, not that I’d ever need to do that. Funny thing is, I didn’t even do geography at O-level. Haven’t studied it at all since I was 12, in fact. But the moment I slipped this jacket on, I found I could tell a scree slope from an oxbow lake, and identify the route for sugar beet exports from the nearest coniferous forest. Uncanny. I’m not wearing it now and I’ve no idea what any of that means. I keep promising myself one but then gasp at the price... Mrs B cannot visit Harris without retuning with another Tweed Handbag.

How often does she visit? It's a bit remote for frequent travel..

Perhaps she needs frequent retuning. 🎶
Radio 4’s The Consultants gave us harrisment, a blend of Harris tweed and cement. A bit heavy, apparently, but very hard wearing. But then, my plain tweed one feels like it’ll take a lot of minibus trips to Lyme Regis before it even needs its elbows patched.

I don’t feel old enough to rock a tweed jacket yet. 🤔

I bought one a few years ago. It comes out as often as Preston Guild .
