Suppose it must depend on what you use it for and the traffic conditions it normally faces. I did 550 miles yesterday ( Scotland and back ), empty motorways mainly. Averaged 57 mpg ( according to the trip computer anyway )

Certainly does feel like one is coming downhill on the return journey...culturally anyway...

Actually 57mpg indicated is pretty good for any large executive estate. Where were you going to and what speed do you usually cruise at? Isn't the M74 heavily policed?

Edinburgh and Falkirk. Just stuck it on cruise at ( ahem ) speed, lets just say it was more than three score and ten, once I got past the M62.

Hmmm - I go to Alloa about every two years so presumably take a similar route. North of Preston is my jumping off point for warp speed.

I've been through Alloa a few times - never stopped there. It had the distinction of being the county town of Clackmannanshire - a sort of Scottish Rutland which I don't think exists any more (unlike Rutland, which fortunately does). Clackmannanshire was one of those places where car registration numbers (SL I think in their case) never got beyond two letters and four numbers until the B suffix came in in 1964.
Useless information! If it had been useful I probably wouldn't have remembered it.
