There's always the exception to prove the rule....
I have never been to Chile, but my parents went twice and met a family there with whom my father is still in touch. Now I feel more closely connected to Chile than any other South American country.

not quite the same is it? It was an example of unrealistic connections. There are after all only 6 levels of separation between all of us

I seem to recall that in the episode of The Office where they did the office quiz, David Brent lost because he thought the President of Cuba was Fray Bentos. So they had to have a "who's best at throwing a copper kettle over a pub" argument instead.

Didn't the BBC report that the Argentines had invaded the Shetlands? Or is that apocryphal? What is not apocryphal is that I was in Edinburgh at the time, on a training course in a building right by the castle with a view from the lounge across the new town to the firth of Forth. Nobody knew exactly where the Falklands were, but quite a few were trying to place them in relation to the Hebrides, Shetland, Orkneys, Faroes etc. One or two were gazing anxiously towards Leith.

"Gazing anxiously towards Leith" rather sounds like something from Betjeman.

"Gazing anxiously towards Leith" rather sounds like something from Betjeman. ....it's something instilled from a very early age in young Edinbuggers by their parents. Ask Humph...
