Something about football brings out the yob in lots of people. I sit in the family stand where it is a little better but occasionally some bad 'uns get in and it becomes more unsavoury.
Mind you if Liverpool or United are visiting I do let my own standards drop, as effectively my modest efforts are drowned out by those around me.

I think that is the reason generally Humph, nasty smells travelling west to east more readily, but it depends from where the nasty smells emanate in relation to the town centre I suppose. Doesn't hold for Reading, the east is posher than the west (north is poshest of all, of course). I don't think wind direction was much of a problem when the town grew, as sewage was routed to the south to be dealt with (the infamous Whitley Whiff), also the industrial smells here were mainly biscuit factories and breweries rather than cotton mills and the like.

East Manchester... poorer districts due to worse communications maybe. The Manchester Ship Canal went west... the Pennines are to the east.
Diagonally opposite the Etihad is City's new training facility. Probably the best in worldwide football until PSG opened theirs recently. It was the site of a very large and massively contaminated chemical works, Clayton Aniline, which made purple dye. The millions that went in to remediate it.... but a reflection of the industries that operated in East Manchester whereas the West was perhaps, post war anyway, more about distribution, so a lot cleaner.

A thing pointed out on some documentary or other, was that in hilly locations, the older āposherā properties are usually near the top of any hills, and the more basic ones are often nearer the bottom.
Apparently, itās not least to do with when sewage and other detritus was routinely washed downhill by rain, making living up the hill distinctly preferable to living at the foot of it.
Which is of course nothing to do with Fiats. š¬

Sheffield had Lodge Moor as an isolation hospital on the most Western edge bordering on the peak district for the cleanest air.
It's now an identikit, executive housing development. All of which has absolutely nothing to do with FIAT Puntos, Manchester City or whatever this thread was setup for...

Reading has posh bits? Every day is a school day eh? š See, this is what I like about Reading, it has really nice parts, but the generally held, uninformed view of the town means we keep them secret, and the wannabes tend to stay away. Although judging by the amount of leased white Teslas and German premimum-branded metal appearing on driveways, and grey window frames being installed, we're getting discovered by new-money hoi polloi and the end is nigh...will be getting out of Dodge in good time I hope.

It's a good car to take to the football. I took my Mercedes to the football today. It now has a new screen and I got to waste two hours in this bleak place.

Canāt say thatās not how it happened but itās not something I generally do. Certainly wasnāt on the A27 last May when I collected the driverās-side, repairable chip, because I had a very long time to watch that stone approaching (or as I approached it, more like.) It felt like fielding on the square leg boundary and seeing the ball hit hard and flat straight at me ā although I resisted the instinct to try to catch it.
The crack clearly resulted from an impact as there was a chip near the lower edge of the screen, barely above the wiper. I donāt remember it happening, though, so I canāt entirely refute your accusation. š

Not so much an accusation really, more of an assumption. š

Just thinking about the Punto, you could get a bonnet from a scrapyard - make sure it's a different colour and you can start building your own exclusive Punto Harlequin.

We were on the way towards that before we swapped the bumper for one of the body colour....

Whose idea was it to paint bumpers anyway?
