I know, I'm just whinging............
I've had Samsung since I converted to Android and always quite liked them. Every manufacturer applies its own User Interface and also customises the operating system [Android] to a lesser or greater extent. That interface and those customisations will suit you or they will not. There is little logic beyond your own preferences and requriements.
By far the most important factor for most people will be "do I like the look and feel?". I care a bit more than that, as much as anything because of the amount of family tablets and phones I look after. Mostly the Samsungs have suited me and phones and tablets have all been theirs.
Recently however Samsung have begun to irritate me;
1) They are very slow to pass through Android updates.
You may wonder why this matters, well there are two reasons; It may be that a new update provides something important to me, and all new Apps will be developed for the latest version and may not be backwards compatible.
2) They are very tight about how many upgrades they will provide for a single phone.
A bit like Microsoft refusing to give you the latest version of Windows because your computer is over 18months old. So this is worse than the scenario above in that its not just a delay, its a full stop. There will be a point where your phone becomes a pain or frustrating because newer stuff is not available to you. Frequently this can involve security issues.
I understand that they want you to buy a new phone, I understand that their UI and customisations are so heavy that maintaining new versions for old phones is hard work, but these things are their fault.
3) Their customisations can become an issue and can be a problem.
For example Android have over recent years changed their approach to SD cards. Samsung have implemented *all* the restrictions, but have not implemented *any* of the advances. So if you are using an 8GB phone and relying on an SD card to make it usable then you now have a problem; You cannot install apps to your SD card, you cannot incorporate it into the phone's memory, all you can do is store media on it.
So now you have to buy a phone with the amount of internal memory you need, if you wish to use Samsung. Somewhat of a kick int he teeth for the lower end market. Obviously Samsung's goal and prom a business people I get it, but from a customer point of view its a problem.
4) They deliberately hold back some technology so that they can release a new phone shortly.
They think that they're Apple.
5) Some of the advances they do implement stink.
e.g. their abysmal finger print scanners.
6) The battery life is shite.
Mostly because a Samsung has so much stuff running in the background and so many extra apps that you cannot get rid of.
7) Samsung hate rooting as much as Apple.
Most people won't care, but it is a pain in the butt for those that do, especially as half the time to use a Samsung the way you want to you have to root it.
My Huawei P9 is a different story. Aside from anything else it charges to full in around an hour and only needs charging every couple of days.
Up your bum, Samsung. I shan't be back any time soon.
