That is an annoying website. If you look at Nogbad's URL you can see the 5? So 1955 = 6, 1956 = 7 etc. So replace the 5 with the number for your year and you can dodge most of the crap by going straight to the right page.
I got a Skoda Felicia. I feel a bit cheated, somehow.

I had a look at some of the younger ones ( those being more relevant to my generation y'see ) 😉 And the thing that struck me was that if the "adjusted for today" prices are accurate that some of those cars were really cheap. Like a Lotus Cortina for £21,000 equivalent.
I always imagined, in fact believed, that cars were seen as much more expensive back then?
Mind you, I suppose if you had to fully replace them every 5 years due to them rusting away then they were. A "modern" 10 year old car can be almost as good as new in that respect.

Interestingly the 0 - 60 of a Lotus Cortina was 14 seconds when the standard 1200cc was 19 seconds. By comparison the absolute slowest of today's Ford Focus has a 0-60 of 14 seconds and the fastest 4.5 secs.

Price then was £9,272 and now would be £137,780. .....when I was much younger (early 1960s) one of my best friend's grandfather had a 1939 RR Phantom III laid up in his garage (in tip-top condition). I think it was probably Mulliner-bodied. He'd taken to a Humber Hawk as his daily runner, and I don't know how long it had been off the road, but it was still being maintained and cleaned. We regularly used to play in it (though even as kids, somewhat respectfully); you certainly would not have guessed from the external state of the garage what was inside it! We ended up in different schools, and I lost touch, but passed the house (and garage) regularly, and often wondered what happened to the car. I've just had a quick browse at what one in good nick might be fetching now............

First car I ever drove ( aged 14 ) on private land was my friend's father's Aston Martin DB6. He used to let us "play" with it to gain driving experience. It's all sort of gone downhill since then ! 🤔

Well, I can tell you what my dad paid for a Volvo 144 in 1970 because he made such a thing about how the world had gone mad now that family cars were costing more than £2000...
He paid £2100 for his whatever that equates to now.
Idly wondering what a modern large Volvo saloon costs now. Must look it up.

Looking at the first ones, the Austin A30 looks hideously expensive at about 60% more than the previous year's Ford Anglia. And for that matter, compared with the 1953 Ford Pop, "my" car. That Felicia actually looks quite good.
Edit: And a Renault 4 in 1968 actually cost fewer £ than the 1951 A30, which shows how expensive cars were in real terms in those early post war years.
I have an invoice somewhere for a new Vauxhall Viva SL that my parents bought in 1966 for £645. That included extra for a heater.

I got a lovely lovely Ford Consul Classic, whatever one of those may be. Can't say I feel any emotional attachment to it now I've seen a picture.
£723 odd then, £14500 odd today.
