Result then. Happy days. I hope you have plenty of room for FLAC on the NAS for more CDs. I've a 2TB NAS which I've now had for about 6 years, which is used (JBOD) for backups, and for streaming photos (and a few old 'home' videos transferred to digital), to the TV. Still quite a bit of room for audio files, though at between 200-300MB for each CD, augmentation will be required at some point (Man maths dictates a 6TB replacement for Christmas ). Most of my collection has been ripped to MP3 at some point, for portable or car use, but the difference between that and FLAC on decent equipment is is like removing your head from a bucket of water whilst listening. Ripping FLAC is remarkably easy (and available in Win10 in Windows Media Player), but I've installed a free ripper that implements sophisticated retry and error correction, and "Accuraterip" which gives confidence that what is read off the CD is "archive quality" (i.e. you could rebuild a CD from the rip exactly as it came from the factory - something, obviously, not possible with MP3).

It was all going well, until I got a letter through the post this morning that reminded me one of my long forgotten insurance policies is maturing next month. There would be many, or at least a few, sensible things to do with that, but in truth, even a new ( very very good ) bike wouldn't dent it much...I shall pray for guidance.😇

...well, lots of albums ripped to FLAC, and it's all going swimmingly (except when Windows Media Player pokes its nose in and messes with the files a bit whilst I'm ripping). As I've said, I've got the generation-before-last of Arcam (actually A&R) kit in another room, with tuner and turntable, but no CD player. I was considering buying a cheaper CD player with streaming capability as a cost-effective method of adding streaming to that, but, with the CD collection now in CD-quality on the NAS, streaming is alone sufficient. So......I bought one of these for £30 : QED uPlay StreamWhich has an original price of £150! (Though Richer Sounds are currently selling at £70, and appear to have had them on offer at £30 in the past). My expectations were fairly low at that price (though not the original) but it streams wirelessly remarkably well, with decent quality and looks a real bargain if you have something to stream from (and to). It is small and easy to conceal I'm really pleased with it (though the audio cable is cr*p - something that is easily remedied, even though the A&R has DIN inputs!).
