Moved out of the Confessional thread
I'd love a cigarette. I mean *really* love one. But if I smoked one cigarette to day I'll have smoked 23 packs by the end of tomorrow. There are only two things which stop me smoking; 1) I haven't smoked in 12 years or so and that would make the first cigarette a waste. There would be no such barrier against the second. 2) Giving up was so hard that I will never do it again. So if I start, I stay. I gave up a 30 a day habit ( age 14 onwards*) ooooo, Must be 12 years ago now, And I never had the urge again, click - bang stop that was it. However, I have had the occasional one, and cigar since and I can safely say I have quit. The odd one wont affect me. *Lets throw in some brands Players no 6, No 10, Sovereign, woodies, through players weights, Senior Service, State Express 555, Rothmans, Capstan Full Strength, and settled on Marlboro reds for the last 20 years of the habit.

John Player Blue then B&H then Marlboro Red
Occasional forays into Gitanes, Disque Bleu and Camel. Even more occasional dips into really nasty local stuff.
The John Player I chose freely, most of the rest was a function of wherever I was at the time and what was available/tolerable

I remember my dad used to smoke John Player Specials. I think. I was 9 when he died due to smoking/asthma. He did pipes and there was a phase when he rolled his own. But whilst people insert filters in their rolled cigarettes these days he certainly didn't in the 70s.
Certainly remember bought cigarettes without filters... not sure if the John Players had a filter or not.
Had a toy F1 car in the colours - presumably because of the cigarette buying. But then also remember Smurfs which was a promotion with fuel purchases. We had loads but then dad was a coach driver. Was it Elf?

In the 70s it was the National brand and in the 80s, Shell.

Had to be National then. It was the late 70s. Watching confirms it.

Anybody got an opinion on those pretend cigarettes with the water vapour? I don't smoke, but they seem incredibly popular. At work I'd say 60-70% of smokers have switched to them in the last year or so. None have gone back to tobacco, by all accounts its about 90% cheaper than smoking.

Never been tempted. Can't see the point.

I see people puffing away on them in the car, it looks like the interior is on fire with the clouds of whatever it is. It seems like a faff with the battery charging and the unknowns in the liquid, probably dog turds and bus tickets masked with crushed apricot seeds or such like.

Like your new "handle" Backpfeifengesicht.
"A face that deserves to be slapped" is the rough translation according to a bit of a Google?
Makes me think of Kim Jong Nige on reflection. He has a Volvo estate by the way. Doesn't necessarily make them bad cars I suppose...😉

Yeah! That's what I like about German they have a word for everything. It can mean slapped or punched. I always think of Russell Brand when I see the word.

So, the staying off the sauce? Just a fitness campaign or what? Sometimes I don't drink for months, mainly if I'm really busy at work. Not anti drinking or anything, just sometimes can't fit it in sort of thing.

No conscious decision just busy at work (I don't normally drink during the week anyway) combined with my daughter having taken up horse riding so needs taxi-ing around and just general "stuff" since we bought our own house is taking all my time up.
I'm starting to accumulate man toys now, bought a rotavator for the garden as an experiment with the little ones to show them where their food comes from.
No plans for a full blown "Good Life" experiment though. Keeping the cars and motorbikes, I'm not going all eco-mental.

Yes, no plans to move for the next decade while the terrible two are still in school. They need the stability.
