It is socially acceptable to want a gun and socially acceptable to have a gun. *That's* what they need to address. Remember the British campaign against drink/driving? They made it embarrassing to get caught for drink/driving and that's when the rates started dropping. Or Branson setting out, in his own words, to make the word "condom" socially acceptable. Social pressure is the only way they will ever address their gun issue. And right now they *like* the image of gun owning rebel. Yep. But are you going to tell a redneck with a gun that he is inadequate, and his gun is a penis-substitute?

Had a mutt on the range one day, waving about some hand-cannon. Standard macho BS. He was told in no uncertain terms that he was a complete arse, and the rules were there for a reason, and if he pointed that thing away from the firing line again, he WOULD likely be shot as a 'safety precaution'.
