Bit of a long shot.....
Am in Luxembourg having visited a long standing client for the first time. We got on well and he paid for a great lunch at some expense. We were chatting about favourite tipples and he, like me, does enjoy some malt whisky. It may be sacrilegious to Humph, but I suggested he try Yamazaki.
Sitting in the departure lounge, it of course struck me I should send him a bottle. Question is how? Would Amazon work? All suggestions welcome.... TIA

Look for a local firm that offers deliveries. Nicolas is one. They have a UK presence too, so you might be able to order through the UK site for delivery in Luxembourg. Otherwise, just use the French site, which offers one-bottle delivery for 19€.

Presumably a rare bottling at that price. I have a Yamazaki 12 yr old, very nice, which I am astonished to see is now over £80 (my excellent son-in-law gave it to me) but I see the 'Distiller's Reserve' is a bit more reasonable at £50 or so.
The same kindly source also gave me a Hakushu, no age stated, from another Suntory-owned distillery. Very pleasant if you (or your friend) like smoke, but not too much.
A different wheeze, if you think your chap may be embarrassed by excessive spending, would be a Japanese whisky tasting selection. They come in at about £30 for 5 x 3cl. drams, and I believe there is one that includes the standard Yamazaki.

Tidied up and merged threads as we had two separate ones running. Don't think anything got lost in the move.

Thanks Dave My step-son helped clean up in Manchester after the riots. He's got a picture posing with Ed Miliband with a few friends with brooms, etc. Except step-son kept calling him Dave He was polite and never corrected him once.

Thanks all. Don't intend to embarrass the bloke so I think the £56 bottle will do.

Used to have to drive to Stuttgart a couple of times a year. Long time ago, 12 or 15 years anyway. Want to say we used to swing by Luxembourg to buy cheap booze and fags. Might be remembering that wrong of course.

I'm more of a gin drinker, so forgive the ignorance - Yamazaki sounds like a hybrid motorbike. Easier to pronounce than Laphroaig, I suppose.

I've got a bottle of Yamazaki at home. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool smoke and peat Islay Malt merchant (Lagavulin will never be beat in my book), and the Yamazaki strikes me as having a touch of the bourbons about it. Even so, I do rather enjoy it.

I like the TCP-flavoured stuff too, Vić. Has to be in the winter, though, after dark, preferably with the wind howling in the chimney.
These warm summer nights, I like American whiskey, over plenty of ice. I came across Woodford Reserve in Atlanta a couple of years ago, but I'm open to other suggestions.

A Yamazaki with ice sounds like an ideal drink for your summer evenings then, WDB. I like a glass of Sancerre, Pouilly Fumé or Torres Viña Sol this time of year personally. Or even Tesco Everyday Value Spanish White Wine from the cardboard container.

Well finally got it sorted. Amazon UK cannot deliver alcohol overseas (presumably some VAT or Duty related issue). Amazon.de (Amazon.lu forwarded directly to it) was able to do it, but for more money and then wouldn't accept the postcode so I had to have an online chat telling me what to do. Probably cost me £70...
Yamazaki....no not a cut'n'shut motorbike but a lovely smooth whisky with a bit of Islay bite. A very nice story how the Suntory distillery got started...they could almost wear kilts.

Avant - I have never got Gin and Tonic. It is sweet and bitter at the same time, but not in the right combination. Then last month someone gave me a G'n'T with Opihr gin. WOW! Lovely...mmmm. Have you tried it?

No - I must look out for it. "Quinquereme of Nineveh from distant Ophir...." I wonder if there's any connection - just two letters transposed.
