If it’s not a typo, Ford is claiming 390 miles from 77kWh for its latest borrowing from the VW catalogue. Excellent if true, but I wonder if we’re already seeing the sort of test engineering that became commonplace in the ICE era.

Well I watched a new video review of the Explorer EV a couple of days ago. It wasn't overly complimentary and the range disparity between quoted and actual was certainly commented upon. I get the impression it is distinctly average overall.
Some of these reviews are overly gushing, whereas those with 1+million subscribers can afford to be more realistic about the qualities or otherwise of a car.

It's just an ID5 painted yellow, isn't it? The range claims are probably to be taken the way those of the ID7 have been. i.e. fictional.

Given we average a real world 272 miles from 64kWh against the manufacturers claimed 280 miles with four+ year old tech, upscaling that to 77kWh gives ~327 miles of range.
To get from there to 390 miles would require 19% improvement in motor efficiency or ~15% plus aerodynamic efficiency.
I would hope 350 miles would be a minimum meaning a real world 210 miles between charges for my 20% to 80% usage. I don't know anyone who charges an EV to 100% and runs it down to as close to 0% as a normal usage pattern.
As for the car itself, I never had the Capri down as a five door hatchback. In profile it has a strong whiff of Polestar2 about it.
Edit: it's only a name but my feeling is the name should have been left alone and a new name used or, something more appropriate like Cortina or Focus given it's a five door hatch.

The new Capri looks like the Polestar 2 in side profile to me.
And how can the MEB underpinnings really give much greater range.... well they can't. So they are lying.

Sadly, ‘youngsters’ who can barely afford a flatshare, let alone a drive to charge on, aren’t buying many EVs (or that many cars at all.) It’s middle-agers like us that are building the demand that is gradually producing the better public infrastructure that will make EVs accessible. We remember the Capri all too clearly — although I think you’d have to be close to 70 now to have actually bought one new.

My brother had a Capri in the late 70s (second hand) and I remember it was not that reliable and was not that good a car to be honest. His would have had the smaller engine so not much in the way of performance either. Replaced I recall by a Shuvit (Chevette).

The 2.8i was a decent car for what it was; a European muscle car with limited sophistication, but then people were getting all excited by 911s that had lethal rear axles...

I had a 3.0S Capri in brown metallic with gold wheels and beige velour seats back around ‘79/‘80. Feels a bit like I’m admitting to something bad I once did now, but back then, it felt pretty cool.
