I like Waitrose because it keeps the self-important tossers and poseurs out of Lidl. If only that were true. They park their very important überSUV in the remote corners of the car park and scamper back to the car with their trolley, open the boot, and fill their Waitrose/M&S bags for life with Lidl/Aldi products. They have to take extra care on bin day ensuring all supermarket branding has been removed from the packaging. 🤣🤣🤣 Marketing has a lot to answer for.

I met with Mr Booth - the grandson of the founder of Booths. He is the CEO of the business and was trying to do a deal with a client of mine. He said they opened a new branch in Carnforth (I think he said) and was in the same complex as an Aldi. He loved it as he didn't need to stock low cost items as people bought that from Aldi and then came into his store to buy the higher value, more profitable stuff...
I am a typical customer of his.

It’s a BMW i design signature — although the iX has quite a few of those, so I won’t miss the blue flashes too badly. Here’s how they appear on ‘my car’ in the BMW app. View AttachmentAnd I found an internet photo of a grey one with blue bits. Not sure the extra colour works so well here, so I’m content with my selection.

You could buy some painters tape and do that yourself for less than £5. Switch to hi-viz yellow when you want to mix it up a bit.

I noticed it [the EQS, for those reading on Dave] when it came out, of course, and on paper (or on screen) it ought to suit me — big hatchback, big back seat, streamlined shape — but like everything Mercedes these days, I can’t get excited about it. If the EQE had been a hatch (or a CLS-esque estate) rather than a headroom-restricted saloon I might have paid more attention.
But the EQS has an even bigger footprint than the iX, but with the S-class vibe of a car to be driven in rather than a (big) family bus. MB probably picked the wrong model to offer as a hatch rather than a saloon.
I ought to be offering MB my approval for committing more to full-EV designs, rather than hedging its bets like BMW, but it turns out that BMW these days just makes more appealing products.

Well we all differ, don't we. I'd far rather an EQS than an iX. Not that I've driven either of course. Agree that the EQE should be a hatch, but as it isn't there should be a shooting brake/estate version also. It is the EV E, after all.

I looked it up. The EQS is longer than the iX (and the CLS, which is the same length) by 263mm. That wouldn't matter on my drive but it will stick out of just about any car park space. I've no doubt it's a lovely thing to be in - but so is what I've chosen, which is better suited to my use case. Well we all differ, don't we. I'd far rather an EQS than an iX. That was never a question I had to consider. The iX is right at the top of the size range for me, and circumstances brought it (just) within my price range too. In my mind, it had to justify itself against smaller, cheaper alternatives, not bigger, more expensive ones. And it had the approval of the Committee because of its similarities to the i3; not something the EQS (or even the EQE) could have called on. The EQE seems like a massive missed opportunity for MB. It could have been MB’s statement that the future is nothing for stick-in-the-mud E owners to be afraid of, with more space, more style and more pleasure of ownership on offer. Instead, it’s managed to come second to BMW’s over-cautious (and over-long) i5. It’s better than the EQC, but that was a low bar to clear.

Email from the dealer this morning. Next week is build time, on track for a mid-July delivery. (In between, I imagine the car has to be hung up in a shed to dry like a salami.)

The build date was set before I placed the order. DtD told me the same when they offered me the deal that the dealer beat. I imagine it’s one of a few times a year when they switch the line over to RHD. And possibly to iXes too; the same factory makes the i7 and i5 either in parallel or in rotation.

That's for the things people say, switching the production line between left and right hand drive. The right parts arrive at the right car at the right time. Each car has a build sheet attached which is scanned at each station.
That is a pretty swift delivery time you've been quoted.
