My landline (now Digital Voice) phone is on silent. I only pick the handset up every now and again to delete the voicemails which accumulate from confused robot calls. Not even my Mum calls me on it anymore, she uses FB Messenger when she wants me. And of course the wife's family abroad use internet video calling too. Landline's dead, baby.

I need to install internet in a flat in a small town in the South Lakes. Various online sites sugegst I can get an average of 66 Mb/s. When actually going onto the websites of the various companies, the best they will offer is 15Mb/s.
Can I stream with 15Mb/s?

You can certainly stream at 15Mbps - just under 1.9MB/s. What streaming services are you thinking about? Netflix claims you need 5Mbps for HD for example. Around 3Mbps for standard. But you won't get 4K/UHD.
Also depends on what else is using the connection of course. Add a few teenagers and who knows.

That's useful. Only two elderly people.

They’ll be fine. Bargain Hunt won’t be especially bandwidth-hungry. And they can probably cache last week’s programme and watch it again and again. 😛

When I first got broadband with Virgin (NTL at the time) it was via the set-top box and was 512Kbps and it was fast for the websites of the time with 3 sharing. Soon it became 600Kbps to make it the same as Telewest.... Gradually it went up and up and when it got to 3Mbps you needed a separate cable modem. I can't remember how fast it got before we moved. I do know when I first got it, I paid £25pm for 512Kbps and that was worth it so two teenagers could have Internet access at the same time rather than argue over the phone line!
So when I moved to Vodafone to save a bit of money I got 75Mbps with phone and Evening/Weekend calls for £23pm. It's gone up I see but ignoring the 'free' Digital Voice and taking off the minutes that's £19pm for 75Mbps! For £40 I think I could get the full 1GBps but have no need for that or even 200Mbps.
But the faster speeds have soon been consumed... 512Kbps with more basic website was speedy. But then so was ISDN when I first tried that in the late 90s when installing in schools for a project.
