I've no strong feeling about the looks of the Dacia, quite inoffensive to my eye. Just a proper wee estate car. And not really any more concerned about the reliability of a Renault compared to an Astra. The Renno 1.5 diesel has a good rep I think. Used in a wide variety of Nissans too and perhaps you wouldn't impunge their reputation for reliability?
My thinking was "what's the newest car you could get to meet these criteria at around that budget"?

You are right of course. Tipo estates almost in budget too.

Oof. You know how I rate those. I didn't think they'd be close enough. Smashing cars for the money. When you see that dealers are asking £14k for a 2016 reg example of my Civic estate, £6k for that 2014 Renault is an absolute steal.

Actually, on double checking, Tipos are still too much.

ULEZ might be a thing for him. Goes to Manchester quite a lot. Music kit to shift and so on.

Which ones, the old or new, or both?
I had one of the new shapes as a hire in Italy/Slovenia/Austria, it was a fine automobile for carting kids and skis/associated gear around. Even got me a nice letter from the Austrian filth complimenting me on how fast I managed to drive it on their unimpeachable autobahn network.

Either really, but ULEZ might be an issue.

Those both look interesting. To me anyway. He’d have to decide for himself if they pass muster!

Just saw your wild card. Something to be said for going cheap and improving.

Aye, there's the rub!
Looking at that last one I edited in, I had no idea they had that type of tailgate with the opening rear window thingy. They really are supremely practical cars. The newer shape is much more conventional of course.
