Humph’s very dirty.
Sorry, that was meant to be ‘Humph’s is very dirty.’ His car, that is. Obviously. 😳

My Leaf now has trendy black wheels, to go with its dented bumper and wing. Proper street.

So, I did clean it on Friday. Really properly actually. It looked pristine for a few hours. Then of course it went out and about over the weekend, including a couple of muddy car parks to facilitate biking trips.
Utterly manky again of course. Shan’t bother again for a good while.

Did it have better range while it was clean, Humph ? 🤪

Wasn’t clean long enough to accurately measure.

This fuel economy theory was tested by the MythBusters on their episode “Dirty vs. Clean Car.” In this episode, Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage tested the gas mileage of an older Ford Taurus. The duo ran tests both while the car was dirty and when it was glistening clean.
The original hypothesis was that the dirtier vehicle would be more aerodynamic, similar to how the dimples of a golf ball create lift and drag on the ball, which allows it to travel further.
However, what they found was that the dirty vehicle was much less fuel efficient, reaching only 24 miles per gallon (MPG), while the clean car got 26 mpg.
That could cause restless nights to an inner Scot if viewed in 200,000 miles hindsight 🤣

Indeed, but I’ll try not to dwell on it! 😉

They should have done a MythBusters on Jocks v Yorkies: Who is the tightest? You know, put one Scotsman and one Yorkshireman in a taxi to a pub, see if one of them manages to get out of the taxi first, and yet also get to the bar second.

Have given up on washing the Subaru for the foreseeable. My main route out of here is now a 20km single track mountain road, 12km of which is unsealed…. Dust or mud. Or sometimes, remarkably, both on the same trip!

That's a long detour for a metalled road, horrendous for a dirt road, Subaru or not.

Such roads are not uncommon in NZ. In fact the majority of minor side roads outside of towns are unsealed. Nobody seems to care!
As a result the Subaru will most probably be replaced by another one later this year. The alternatives on the short list (X-trail, Kuga, Outlander,..) on the leasing scheme are all the 2WD variants.

I’d better give the car a clean this weekend - am meeting my boss F2F next week for the first time (ain’t Zoom wonderful) and taking them to a client meeting. The car looks like it’s been rallied in the Welsh forests…
At least the windscreen is being replaced first thing Monday, so there’ll be no remarks about the huge bullseye in the middle of it…
