Should I bring some back from Greece? No queues here...

Some Aygos? Perhaps they’re like cowrie shells, small enough to be used as currency in some cultures.
Ours has had a reasonable amount of use. It just doesn’t burn much fuel, however hard you try.

Panic buying folks can be odd - they felt the need to stock up on fuel but it seems not if they had to pay more for super unleaded.... Our local Tesco Extra still had super unleaded available and no big queues. Surely if you felt you really really needed to fill up you'd pay the extra?

I would, but another £5 on a fill-up isn’t going to keep me from buying my groceries. Care home workers, hospital porters and many others aren’t so fortunate.

Are people really that (over)stretched WdB? Hard to believe it looking at all the fancy new cars on the roads.
What does everyone need the petrol for?! I thought that half of the country was WFH and/or doing a hugely reduced mileage since Covid appeared?

Not the same people, Norm.

I’d add 50p to the price of a litre for the week, that’d clear the queues.

Might be a better idea to require a minimum spend - say £30 - to stop people who already have 3/4 of a tank, and are topping up and filling jerry cans where there is no need.
Either that or never vote Tory.

It’s still not over. I went to pick up MrsB1 from Twyford station late this evening. Thought I’d take the CLS for a trundle and fill it up while the forecourts were quiet.
Turned out they were quiet for a reason. One of the two on the A4 was just dark. The other was open but had nothing but premium grades. Irrationally, I scorned the idea of a one-off overpriced fill in favour of trundling home on the remaining quarter-tank. And by now, MrsB1 was complaining about her bladder, so there wasn’t the option of cruising around to see what else was available.
Hey-ho. No fuel, no Christmas, soon no food either. And they’ve remembered that Northern Ireland is broken too. Taking back control never felt so good.

...and electricity and gas shortages ahead.
At least the UK has largely got Covid restrictions done and dusted. Over here we’re stumbling in to months of lockdowns, rules and regs that change daily, mask wearing and division. Just like you went through last year. Oh and whilst NZ won’t starve, many imported goods will soon be extortionately priced or NLA.

Proper brexit Christmas in the offing, no Turkey, no Brussels.
We have noticed in the supermarkets up here, in Scotland, less meat in the fridges being replaced with big bottles of fizzy drinks otherwise it's mainly snack foods which are not available which may not be such a bad thing generally, a bit of a dampner when planning a blow out. MiL reports freezer section is impacted too though we haven't ventured in there.
Can only assume those not seeing any difference must live on a diet of suet, corned beef and Yorkshire puddings.

My Civic has been sitting on the drive with about 25 miles of fuel in the tank since we got back from Scotland in August. But this week I needed some petrol - for the lawnmower. So I decided to take the Civicand the jerry can. The first station I got to had a maximum purchase of £5 and no diesel available. So I filled my jerry, and then put as much petrol as I could in the Civic up to the £35 limit (ornery unleaded, E10 tho natch). Which filled it up just over half way. Oh well, I won't need any more than that for ages, the fuel line to the Leaf seems to be working just fine, for now.
