From where you are, Vić, you really don’t have to ride for long to get on to roads with minimal traffic — and with only a modestly tufty bike like mine, or those you’ve been looking at (ruftiness is superfluous round here, especially in summer) you don’t even need tarmac. I’ll match Humph’s offer to show you some routes — although I doubt you’d be happy on any of our family bikes. 🤠

That's a kind offer, I'd be interested to take you up. I bought the local OS map for exactly that reason last year, but can't really work out what would be good routes, finding those which would not necessitate having to load my bike up in to the car is a challenge. The roads in my immediate vicinity are quite horrid. even the nearby country lanes are plagued with badly driven vans these days, I had a couple of close calls whilst out with my daughter last summer and it put me right off - remember my close inspection of a quite pointy laurel hedge? I would rather not follow in the footsteps of my father in this regard.

I guess if you can't get a proper holiday this year Al, you could load everyone into the canoe and paddle off to somewhere. Rub two Boy Scouts together and make fires sort of thing? Sling hammocks between trees etc.
Anyway, it was supposed to be today we were going to set off to drive to Dixi's place. Have to wait until the 19th of July now I suppose.

Pah. Good point. I was looking forward to that. Oh well Boris and his best-of-all-options crew really are trying their best so can't be too cross. Just imagine how bad things could be.
