My daughter starts in September.... Her driving so far on our industrial estate on a Sunday morning, well away from anyone else, has been good. I hope it stays that way on the roads...

Might be worth looking at test dates now. The backlog isnโt likely to clear for a year or more.

I have heard, somewhere anyway, that if you're prepared to travel to a more rural or less populated area for them, that tests are often more readily available.
But don't take that as any form of gospel, I think on reflection, that was something I heard about decades ago as opposed to recently. Could be worth investigating though I suppose.

...come to think, there was a guy I knew at uni who had grown up and passed his test in the Shetlands. He came to Edinburgh with his old ( well, I suppose it wasn't that old then ) VW Variant. He was the classic drive everywhere at 40 mph sort of chap. Which was fine on country roads, if a little frustrating for other traffic, but he did exactly the same in the city whether there was anything in the way or not. Donald something. Sciency type. It'll come to me. Not that you'll care... ๐

A cousin of mine took his test in Carmarthenshire on his 17th birthday. He passed.

I want to say Sutherland. But it wasn't, because that's a actor isn't it. Something along those lines anyway. Sort of chap who probably ended up doing something obscure at the Met office I'd guess. Or Jodrell Bank maybe. Knew about computers, you know the sort. Spreadsheets and things.

Colleague driving to Orkney tomorrow. His mother was born there. Previous visits include obligatory photo at Twatt signpost, showing him aging gracefully...
