I mentioned in WDB car replacement thread my wife had an LAD heart attack. Thank you for all the best wishes and kind words. If you are not aware what one is or have not already looked it up, it’s a complete blockage down the side of the heart.
She went to bed as usual, nothing out of the ordinary, I woke about 2:30am she was crying, complaining she couldn’t breathe, like an elephant was sat on her chest. She was very agitated and convinced she had Covid. She said she’d been like this for around five minutes.
At this point analyst brain kicked in for me rather than human oh my god what do I do now. Focused on her breathing, she complained of jaw pain, tingling in her hands and wrists, being clammy and feeling nauseous. She said she felt like she was dying.
Aspirin ! Get some aspirin into her. She managed to chew and swallow 150mg with a little water, I later read 325mg is optimal but any is better than nothing, though not too much obviously. I know some people are allergic to aspirin, I’m no medical expert, I got extremely lucky and I know it. Medical people will tell you how you should do it.
After a few minutes the pain in her chest eased, it did not go away. At this point she said not to worry she felt fine. Of course she wasn’t. I’d already called for an ambulance and emergency doctor. I wanted them to check her over. If it was wind or indigestion then fine by me, rather suffer that mild embarrassment and know nothing was wrong.
Four big, burly, blokes into the house about 15-20 minutes after I called and I could see the panic in her eyes. Four blokes, in boots, in our bedroom with a cream carpet on the floor. There better not be any marks !*
They did an ECG and decided to take her off to hospital. I could not go with her due to Covid. My wife was in ER less than an hour after I woke up and had an angioplasty and two stents to open up a 5cms blockage within a couple of hours.
My wife was in hospital for 6 days before being allowed home. She is now in a ReHa clinic (between Munich and Garmisch next to a lake) with views of the Alps, fresh air, massages, therapies, exercise and nutrition sessions for three weeks.
There is the possibility a third stent may be required on the other side of the heart. Scary stuff.
It was only when I called work later that morning to arrange some time off that it hit me what had actually happened. That made me sit down and take stock.
The children have been brilliant and not let me dwell too long on the events.
What my wife is struggling with mentally at the moment is why her ? She’s never smoked, doesn’t do fast food, drinks extremely moderately whereas I’ve done enough for both of us. Luck of the genes draw just doesn’t cut it.
Looking at the stats for that kind of emergency we’re is not out of the woods. Take each day as it comes. The ReHa is definitely helping. It’s now about managing how to keep her stress levels down once she’s home and wants to help out.
*For anyone wondering, the bedroom carpet was fine, no marks.
