NQ is not a cheap place anymore. Very Bohemian in the latest young, trendy and well earning manner.
It's one of those places that people queried why anyone would buy there 25 years ago and now, those pioneers are sitting on huge profits.

Mission accomplished! He’s secured a nice flat with off street parking in a converted cotton mill in the northern quarter of Manchester. Quite fancy it myself as a city pad. Which might actually happen as I’m the guarantor… 😬 Great location for a young person. Lots of good cafes, bars, restaurants all in close proximity without the need for a car. Even getting to Oldham is possible without a car using the tram which is not too far away from NQ. If he wants a recommendation for a good barbers or cafe (selling their own beans) let me know. Oldham? Getting to Oldham? What? Why? |

Stop before Stoke, and not again until after Preston. That's my golden rule when driving to Scotland, if using the less desirable western route. Lock the doors. If on the eastern route, stop before Sheffield, and not again until after Scotch Corner. I did once have an unplanned stop at Wetherby. Shudder. I only countenance stopping in Nottinghamshire because at least it isn't Derbyshire, and I'm familiar with the language and traditions of the locals (my duck), and can usually take prompt evasive action.

@espada. He’s going to be teaching music at a school in Oldham. He is keen to try city life for a while so hence the flat in Manchester. Guess he’ll either take to it or not. He’s quite into the music scene there and has a lot of friends/contacts in the city.
I intend no offence, but I’m not keen on the north of England either, however, I find myself here by default and spousal preference. I guess it’s better to be happy somewhere you’re not best fond of than less so in utopia. I’ve lived here for 22 years now so I suppose I must have adapted a bit, but it has never felt like home to me. On the contrary, it is my wife’s home territory and I have to respect that preference I suppose.
I’d go back to live in Scotland in a heartbeat, or indeed the south of France if that could be made possible, but I think I’m probably stuck here for a while yet. Life eh?

I'm only indulging in a bit of leg pulling, really. I mean I went to Liverpool once and someone was really nice to me.  I intend no offence either if it isn't clear, I get my leg pulled on here pretty regularly about the town I live in. |
